A study in elegance is the perfect description of Pulse model Shalisha Stewart’s latest outing for the French brands, Études and Hermès. A combination of slick leather jackets and soft silky layers in pinks, beiges and greys cascade down the frame of the lanky model who strides confidently into every shot for the new campaigns. Not bad for a girl who began her career with Women Paris just last year.
“It was an amazing feeling for things to start moving so quickly, but I was quietly excited that my modelling career got off to a great start, said the soft spoken Trinidadian. Stewart met the Pulse team in Jamaica at the end of 2016. Romae Gordon took the customary industry required digitals, sent them off to London and Paris. By the Spring of 2017, the beauty was on the books of one of the world’s top agencies – Women– both in Paris and New York. Stewart is also represented by Models1 in London.
It was in London that Shalisha made her first mark in international fashion. There she walked for RoksandaIllnic, Temperley,JJ.S. Lee, Lemaire, Uma Wang and Christian Wijnants.
Paris wanted in on the gentle beauty too. There, she walked for Azzaro and Thom Browne.And it was in the city of light that she met the creative team from revered French design house, Hermès.“Intimidation.” That was the first thing Stewart said came to her mind. “Hermès is such a major brand and I felt honoured to be selected by them for this shoot. It was unlike anything I had done before. I spent 3 days on set and I learned so much, plus the clothes were so beautiful,” said Shalisha.
Stewart brings a confident cool to the minimalist chic of each garment she wears for both design houses. But don’t mind the simplicity, each look is exquisitely crafted which also suggests that the pieces have major longevity in any closet.
Although the look and feel of the clothes exude simplicity and elegance, the history and design philosophy of Études and Hermès are very different. The former is the younger label which began only in 2012 and position itself as“global experience of visual culture which operates across platforms from menswear and womenswear to publishing.” This hybrid approach the company notes, has a strong emphasis on experimentation.
Hermès on the other hand, is high fashion luxury goods manufacturer established in 1837. It specializes in leather, lifestyle accessories, home furnishings, perfumery, jewellery, watches and ready-to-wear.
Shalisha appeared to be the perfect candidate for bothjobs as her lithe built seamlessly adjusted to the two brands. She was able to bring the fresh new interpretation to the young Études while demonstrating pro moves for the more established Hermès.
